Rishi Panchami is observed on Bhadrapada Shukla Panchami, which is one day after Ganesh Chaturthi. For 2026, Ganesh Chaturthi will fall on September 14, and hence Rishi Panchami on September 15, Tuesday
According to the Hindu Panchang, the Panchami Tithi starts at 7:44 AM on September 15 and ends at 8:59 AM on September 16, 2026. Since the tithi is present during the appropriate midday period on September 15, the vrat and puja are observed on this date.

दहन्तु पापं मे सर्वं गृह्णन्त्वर्घ्यं नमो नमः॥
May the seven revered sages—Kashyapa, Atri, Bharadvaja, Vishvamitra, Gautama, Jamadagni and Vashistha—remove all impurities and accept these humble offerings. Salutations to them again and again.

Why Is Rishi Panchami 2026 Observed?
The traditional Rishi Panchami Vrat Katha tells the story of Uttank, his wife Sushila and their widowed daughter. According to the traditional narrative, the daughter suffered an unusual affliction connected with actions attributed to her previous birth. After the cause was understood, she observed Rishi Panchami and worshipped the seven sages with devotion. The observance is said to have relieved her suffering. Versions of this story appear in Purana-based vrat traditions.
The story is traditionally connected with the concept of Rajaswala Dosha, an old ritual belief concerning menstruation. Such beliefs belong to historical religious traditions and should not be treated as a statement that menstruation makes anyone physically or morally impure.
