This year, devotees may have one important question: Can Lord Shiva be worshipped during Bhadra Kaal? The answer is reassuring—Bhadra does not prevent Shiva worship. When Is Sawan Shivratri 2026?
Sawan Shivratri is celebrated on the Chaturdashi of the Krishna Paksha during the auspicious month of Shravan. According to North Indian culture, the Sawan begins on July 30, and the Sawan Shivratri falls on August 11 in 2026.
As per the calculation of Panchang, the period of Krishna Chaturdashi begins around 4:54 AM on August 11 and ends around 1:52-1:53 AM on August 12. The festival is therefore observed on August 11, while the most important midnight worship falls after midnight.
Sawan Shivratri is a special form of Masik Shivratri, which occurs every month on Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi. The observance becomes especially significant in Shravan, the month traditionally associated with Lord Shiva.
Bhadra Kaal on Sawan Shivratri 2026: Is Shiva Puja Allowed?
One of the biggest questions regarding Sawan Shivrati 2026 is that whether Bhadra Kaal occurs or not.
According to the provided Panchang schedule, Bhadra will prevail from the morning until around 3:22 PM on August 11. Bhadra is traditionally avoided for several auspicious worldly activities, such as starting ceremonies, marriages and other major undertakings.
However, Shiva worship is viewed differently. Devotees are allowed to offer prayers and perform Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva during Bhadra Kaal. Hence, devotees can worship Shiva in accordance with their respective family tradition and Panchang.

The four Prahar periods are also considered very important:
First Prahar: 7:04 PM – 9:45 PM
Second Prahar: 9:45 PM – 12:26 AM
Third Prahar: 12:26 AM – 3:07 AM
Fourth Prahar: 3:07 AM – 5:49 AM
These timings can differ according to city and Panchang.
Devotees unable to remain awake throughout the night can focus on the Nishita Kaal or perform sincere Shiva Puja during a suitable Prahar.

Shivratri symbolizes spiritual austerity, purity, and remembering of Mahadev. The devotees fast during this day in order to curb their senses, and nightlong worship helps in concentrating and showing devotion to Lord Shiva.

Perform Abhishek with milk, curd, honey and other traditional offerings as appropriate.
