Why July 2026 Is Spiritually Important

We are in the last phase of the month of Ashadha in July 2026 and enter in the holy month of Shravana now which is considered auspicious for followers of Sanatan Dharma because it combines the worship of both God Vishnu and God Shiva.

One of the prominent religious events of the month is Devshayani Ekadashi. Devshayani Ekadashi signifies the start of Chaturmas or the four-month period in which God Vishnu decides to go to Yoga Nidra or divine sleep. During this time, we have to do more focus on our spiritual aspects through various self-disciplined practices and devotion.

The scriptures remind devotees about the importance of righteousness and devotion:

धर्मो रक्षति रक्षितः।

Dharma protects those who protect it.

This teaching from the Hindu scripture encourages people to incorporate spiritual teachings in their life for all twelve months of the year.

Devshayani Ekadashi: Beginning of Chaturmas

Out of the various festivals in July 2026, Devshayani Ekadashi, which takes place on July 25, is among the most important ones spiritually.

According to the Hindu beliefs, during this time Lord Vishnu goes to sleep and remains in Yoga Nidra until Prabodhini Ekadashi. The gap from Devshayani Ekadashi to Prabodhini Ekadashi is known as the period of Chaturmas.

During the Chaturmas phase, devotees tend to take special vows and practice increased spirituality. They also avoid conducting any major ceremonies like marriage.

The Padma Purana praises devotion to Lord Vishnu:

नमो भगवते तस्मै विष्णवे प्रभविष्णवे।

Salutations to Lord Vishnu, the supreme source and sustainer of the universe.

Jagannath Rath Yatra and Guru Purnima

Jagannath Rath Yatra – July 16, 2026

The Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath is one of the most prominent festivals celebrated in Hinduism in which people come over to see the decorated chariot of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra.

The festival symbolizes the Lord's compassion and willingness to come among devotees.

Guru Purnima – July 29, 2026

Guru Purnima is a festival in which devotees express their gratitude and respect for the gurus and spiritual teachers. The day is also the way to honor Maharishi Ved Vyasa who wrote Mahabharata as well as compiled the Vedas.

The importance of the Guru is beautifully described in a famous Sanskrit verse:

गुरुर्ब्रह्मा गुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः।

गुरुः साक्षात् परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्रीगुरवे नमः॥

The Guru is Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheshwara; the Guru is the Supreme Reality itself. Salutations to that revered Guru.

According to the people of Sanatangyan, Guru Purnima is one of the unique occasions for spiritual reflections and learning purposes.

Arrival of Shravana: The Month of Lord Shiva

On July 30, 2026, the holy month of Shravana, dedicated to Lord Shiva, commences. Various rituals including fasting, Rudrabhishek, chanting mantras, and worshiping Lord Shiva, are carried out during this holy month.

As Lord Vishnu enters into the Yoga Nidra state, the auspicious month dedicated to Lord Shiva commences, allowing the followers to experience spiritual transformation that brings about clean consciousness, purity in devotion, and inner transformation.

In July 2026, devotees will encounter a lovely occasion owing to some holy vrats, festivals, and celebrations like Jagannath Rath Yatra, Devshayani Ekadashi, Guru Purnima and the festival of Sawan. The month indicates the significance of following the teachings from the scriptures, getting the blessing of the guru, and following the same path shown by the saints.
