Facing obstacles or defeat in life? Learn how Vijaya Ekadashi removes karmic blocks and grants divine victory.
The sacred observance of Vijaya Ekadashi within the framework of Sanatan Dharma is among some of the most powerful ways to transform failures into successes through devotion, surrender, and discipline to the Supreme Being and spiritual inquiry and strength as defined in Vedic texts.

The Divine Secret Behind True Victory
Hare Krishna! Everyone desires victory, but very few understand where real victory comes from. In today’s world, success after failure is called a “comeback,” yet our ancient shashtra reveal a far deeper truth. That divine turning point is known as Vijaya Ekadashi—the sacred fast that empowers a seeker to rise from the edge of defeat and claim victory blessed by the Supreme.
Ekadashi is not merely abstaining from food. It is a spiritual detox that silences the senses and awakens the soul. All of the Ekadashi also provide opportunities to emerge from the distractions of worldly existence; however, Vijaya Ekadasi is unique in that it has the potential to turn impossible outcomes into victorious results through grace from God and spirituality.

The Divine Origin of Vijaya Ekadashi
The history of Vijaya Ekadashi has been vividly recounted in the Ramayana, where Lord Shri Ram stood on one side of an impassable ocean, with the city of Lanka on the opposite side and Ravana's invincible army blocking the road to the city. Neither Lord Ram nor his disciples had sufficient material resources, had lost faith as a result of the many hindrances to their journey, and the road appeared to be blocked.
Sage Dalavya was an eminent Sadhu who disclosed to Lord Rama the secret of Vijaya Ekadashi through a process of fasting from sunrise to sunset according to the Vijaya Ekadashi rules as instructed by sage Dalavya; by doing so Lord Rama experienced the fulfillment of His father's wish through the Holy Spirit, as did all of humanity during ancient times, allowing him to build a bridge across the ocean and remove all of Ravana's sins.
This story illustrates that when physical strength does not work, it is spiritual discipline that provides strength. Sanatangyan emphasizes that divine victory always follows surrender combined with righteous effort.

Scriptural Authority and Sacred Power
The Skanda Purana and Padma Purana are among those many scriptures that describe the glory of Vijaya Ekadashi. These texts declare that observing this fast destroys sins from previous births and grants unwavering determination.
“विजया नाम या एकादशी सर्वपापप्रणाशिनी।” - (Padma Purana)
“The Ekadashi known as Vijaya destroys all sins and grants success in every endeavor.”
Such verses confirm that Vijaya Ekadashi is not symbolic—it is transformative. According to shashtra, this vrata grants clarity of intellect, firmness of resolve, and divine protection on life’s battlefield.
Vijaya Ekadashi: A Kurukshetra Within
Vijaya Ekadashi is a reminder that victory comes through surrender, self-discipline, and having faith in God. Fasting on this day is not about hunger; it is about mastering desire.
Another powerful reminder comes from the Bhagavad Gita:
“उद्धरेदात्मनाऽत्मानं नात्मानमवसादयेत्।” (Bhagavad Gita 6.5)
“One must elevate oneself by the mind and not degrade oneself; the mind can be the friend or the enemy.”
Sanatangyan teaches that the one who conquers the self becomes undefeatable. No Ravana—external or internal—can overpower such a person.

Beyond Material Victory
Were humans born only to chase temporary success? The shashtra clearly state that human life is attained after countless births. To waste it in constant attachment to food, sleep, fear, and lust is the greatest defeat of all.
The body is a rented house; one day it will be vacated. Vijaya Ekadashi reminds devotees to fill this temporary shelter with devotion, discipline, and remembrance of the Divine. True victory is not just winning battles—it is attaining inner freedom and divine companionship.
Vijaya Ekadashi reminds us that true victory is born from surrender, discipline, and faith in the Divine. When devotion leads the way, even the greatest defeats transform into lasting inner and outer triumphs.
Heartfelt Vijaya Ekadashi wishes to all from Sanatan Gyan.
