Why Telugu Hanuman Jayanti Is Celebrated Differently

For devotees living in the Telugu speaking areas, the celebration of Hanuman Jayanti will be different than in other areas of India. While many areas will celebrate Hanuman Jayanti based on the full moon of the Chaitra month, devotees from the Telugu speaking areas will observe Hanuman Jayanti a total of 41 days after they begin their period of Deeksha (spiritual cleansing) during the Chaitra full moon. This process of spiritual cleansing will end on the 10th day of the Krishna Paksha in the Vaishakha month.

During these 41 days of Deeksha, many devotees practice discipline, simplicity and devotion. Many wear saffron clothing and do not practice negative habits, instead they spend time meditating or by chanting the name of Lord Hanuman. A website called sanatangyaan suggests that Deeksha is meant to represent both the purifying of the devotees mind, as well as strengthening their willpower.

Spiritual Importance of Lord Hanuman

In Hinduism, Lord Hanuman is highly revered. Hanuman represents the highest form of devotion for Hanuman to Rama. Hanuman is referred to as a Chiranjeevi (an immortal being), and he is said to remain on earth throughout the duration of the Kali Yuga.

A famous Sanskrit verse praising Lord Hanuman says:

मनोजवं मारुततुल्यवेगं जितेन्द्रियं बुद्धिमतां वरिष्ठम्।

वातात्मजं वानरयूथमुख्यं श्रीरामदूतं शरणं प्रपद्ये॥

Salutations to Lord Hanuman, who is swift as the mind and wind, who has mastered the senses, who is wise, and who serves as the divine messenger of Lord Rama.

It is believed by devotees that wherever the name of Rama is being recited, Hanuman can be found present. Hanuman Garhi and Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple are examples of pilgrimage sites where he is said to bless people with his spiritual presence.

As per several spiritual practitioners on Sanatangyan, worshipping Hanuman will aid in eliminating fear, negativity, and other obstacles from one's life.
