Purushottam Ekadashi 2026 falls on May 27. Know its tithi timings, puja vidhi, spiritual importance, and how this sacred vrat brings peace, prosperity, and Lord Vishnu’s blessings.

For ardent worshipers of the Hindu faith, one of their beliefs regarding Purushottam Ekadashi is that it is among the most powerful and spiritually benevolent of all of the Ekadashis found within the Sanatan Dharma tradition. In addition to dedicating this sacred vrat to Lord Vishnu, many Hindus believe that this specific vrat has unique abilities to eliminate all negative karma, destroy any sinful karma from lifetimes before, and provide all worshipers with happiness, peace, and prosperity. Throughout India, devotees observe this most auspicious of devotions for Lord Vishnu through fasting, charitable giving, singing of bhajans and kirtans, and an abundance of devotion towards Lord Hari, all with the intention of removing negative karma and attaining salvation.

When Is Purushottam Ekadashi 2026?

Purushottam Ekadashi probably will take place on a Wednesday in the third week of the fourth month (according to the lunar calendar). The eighth day of the lunar month, which corresponds to both holiday celebrations, also falls on the same day during this time frame, proving similar patterns to either of these two remaining festivals in the 2026 cycle.

Ekadashi Tithi Timing

  • Ekadashi Tithi Begins: 5:10 AM on May 26, 2026

  • Ekadashi Tithi Ends: 6:21 AM on May 27, 2026

As per the Udaya Tithi, the vrat will be observed on May 27.

Why Is It Called Purushottam or Padmini Ekadashi?

Adhik Maas is also known as Purushottam Maas because this entire month is dedicated to the Purushottam form of Lord Vishnu. Therefore, the Ekadashi falling in this sacred month is called Purushottam Ekadashi.

It is also popularly known as Padmini Ekadashi. The word “Padmini” symbolizes purity and spiritual blossoming like a lotus flower. Religious beliefs state that this vrat brings peace, fortune, and divine positivity into the lives of devotees.

As stated within the sacred scriptures of Hinduism, the sincere observance of this vrat allows all devotees to remove suffering and, ultimately, transcend from this earthly existence to that of Vishnu Lok.

A beautiful verse glorifying Lord Vishnu states:

शान्ताकारं भुजगशयनं पद्मनाभं सुरेशम्।

विश्वाधारं गगनसदृशं मेघवर्णं शुभाङ्गम्॥

Lord Vishnu, who rests on the serpent bed, is peaceful, eternal, and the support of the universe. Worshipping Him removes fear and suffering from life.

Spiritual Significance of Purushottam Ekadashi

Many devotees who participate in Purushottam Ekadashi consider it to be a divine opportunity for spiritual purification, devotion, and spiritual awakening. It is stated within the scriptures that by remembering mighty Lord Vishnu with a pure heart on Purushottam Ekadashi, then all of the accumulated sinful karma is destroyed from a devotee's life, and they will achieve peace.

This vrat encourages:

  • Self-discipline

  • Positive thinking

  • Charity and service

  • Control over desires

  • Spiritual growth

The sacred nature of the month of Adhik Maas makes it even more beneficial to worship through chanting, prayer, fasting, and meditation. According to SanatanGyan, several devotees devote the entire day to the remembrance of Lord Hari through the singing of bhajans and kirtans as well as the chanting of the Vishnu mantras.

Another sacred verse from the Bhagavad Gita highlights devotion:

पत्रं पुष्पं फलं तोयं यो मे भक्त्या प्रयच्छति।

तदहं भक्त्युपहृतमश्नामि प्रयतात्मनः॥

Lord Krishna says that even a leaf, flower, fruit, or water offered with true devotion is lovingly accepted by Him.

The Padma Purana states:

जपो दानं तपः स्नानं तीर्थदेवालयेषु च।

नित्यं कुर्यात् प्रयत्नेन महापुण्यफलं लभेत्॥

Chanting, charity, austerity, and holy acts performed at sacred places grant immense spiritual merit.
