Planning a wedding in 2026? Find out why January has no shubh muhurat and check the complete list of auspicious February dates.
January 2026 brings a complete pause on Hindu wedding ceremonies due to Kharmas and Venus combustion. According to Sanatan astrology and shashtra, marriage rituals resume only after Venus rises on 1 February 2026. The best part here is that there are 12 shubh marriage muhurats in the month of February.

Why Is There No Wedding Muhurat in January 2026?
In the upcoming January 2026, there are going to be no auspicious muhurat dates for wedding festivities, considered a phenomenon but clearly described in Hindu astrology. Being as per ancient “shashtra" and living by “sanatangyan," the conjunction with Venus (Shukra) has particular importance.
Kharmas starts from 16 December 2025, a time when significant auspicious events such as marriages, griha pravesh, and mundan are normally forbidden. The halt, though, begins even before that. Venus goes into the state of being combust on 11 December 2025, rendering it inauspicious from that very date for rituals that are part of marriage.
In Sanatan tradition, Venus is known as kama, kamala, and saraswati, depicting. When Venus sets or becomes combust, marriage ceremonies are avoided, as advised by gurus and learned sadhus who interpret these planetary signals through sacred shashtra.
“शुक्रहीने न कर्तव्या विवाहादि क्रियाः शुभाः।” — (Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra)
“When Venus is absent or weak, auspicious acts like marriage should not be performed.”
This is why, despite Kharmas concluding on the 15th of January, 2026, there are still no wedding festivities.

How Long Will the Wedding Restrictions Continue?
Generally, favorable events begin later, after the end of Kharmas on 15th January. However, in the year 2026, the constraint applies as Venus is still combust for 53 days. Venus emerges on 1st February 2026, which marks the real beginning of marriages muhurats.
Therefore, the entire month of January 2026 is not a favorable month to conduct weddings, even though Kharmas runs only till the middle of that month. It has been explained by learned gurus that the strength of planets is also to be considered, in addition to tithi and nakshatra while finalizing a date for
“कालः करोति भूतानां संयोगं विप्रयोगं च।” - (Mahabharata)
“Time brings beings together and also separates them.”
This waiting period gives the families some time to prepare themselves thoughtfully, take blessings from the elderly, gurus, and do some spiritual practice before embarking on a fresh life journey.

Spiritual Significance of Waiting
In a Sanatan context, this waiting period is not negative. It is a time of reflection, prayer, and preparation, described also as such by Sadhus. Marriage is a samskara, a life ritual, but not a social formality.
As stated in the Manusmriti:
“संस्काराः शुद्धये देहस्य”
“Sacraments are meant to purify and elevate life.”
Hence, conducting marriages in accordance with the correct muhurat leads to proper balances in terms of spirituality, prosperity, and happiness.
