Why Is Kamika Ekadashi So Powerful?

The holy month of Sawan, also called Shravan, started on July 30, 2026, where worshipping Lord Shiva becomes the prime concern. Each day during this month is considered highly beneficial, thereby making Kamika Ekadasi more spiritually viable.

Kamika Ekadashi primarily focuses on Lord Vishnu, but since it falls in the month of Savan, it gives the opportunity to worship both Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. Kamika Ekadashi is considered to be one of the pious days for praying, fasting, and donating to the deserving. Devotees understand praying with purity of mind and fulfilling Kamika Ekadashi rituals would remove sins and enable him to earn the blessings of the divine.

As stated in the Bhavishya Purana, Kamika Ekadashi fast is capable of relieving a person of severe sins which would otherwise be unpardonable.

The Padma Purana also glorifies the greatness of Ekadashi:

एकादश्यां निराहारो यो भुङ्क्ते द्वादशी दिने।

विष्णुलोकमवाप्नोति सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते॥

One who observes the Ekadashi fast and properly breaks it on Dwadashi attains the abode of Lord Vishnu and becomes free from all sins.

According to sanatangyan, Kamika Ekadashi should not just be seen as a day of fasting but also as a day to develop devotion, control, love, and divine remembrance.

The Story Behind Kamika Ekadashi

The Puranas mention that this day offers the person a chance for divine transformation. In one of the popular stories, it is said that king Yudhishthira kept this special fast after being told the prayer’s greatness. He managed to remove all his sins owing to his devotion.

The story implies that no matter the consequences of one’s actions, proper repentance and appropriate actions on Kamika Ekadashi should offer the person a spiritual path.

The Bhagavad Gita beautifully reminds devotees:

पत्रं पुष्पं फलं तोयं यो मे भक्त्या प्रयच्छति।

तदहं भक्त्युपहृतमश्नामि प्रयतात्मनः॥ (Bhagavad Gita 9.26)

Whoever offers a leaf, a flower, a fruit, or water with sincere devotion, Lord Vishnu lovingly accepts that offering.

This verse highlights that devotion matters far more than material offerings.

Simple Remedies to Perform on Kamika Ekadashi

Many traditional wisdoms are associated with enhancing the spiritual benefits of this holy date.

  • Offer Panchamrit to Lord Vishnu for peace, prosperity, and abundance.

  • Light a ghee diya at the home's main entrance in the evening and worship Goddess Lakshmi.

  • Light another ghee lamp before the Tulsi plant and chant "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya" 108 times.

  • Perform Jal Abhishek of the Shivling using water mixed with raw milk and Ganga Jal while chanting "Om Namah Shivaya."

  • Offer yellow flowers to Lord Vishnu and Shami flowers to Lord Shiva.

  • Donate white and yellow-colored items to the needy to increase spiritual merit and remove obstacles.

Such simple remedies, when performed with faith, help in bringing in positive energy and blessings of the divine.
