Feeling Lost? 5 Easy Spiritual Practices That Truly Work

Confused, anxious, or spiritually empty? These 5 easy Sanatan practices can help you reconnect with your soul and the divine.

Experiencing feelings of disconnection, unease or disorientation in life is not a sign of weakness or inadequacy but rather an indication that your soul has begun its journey towards becoming more aligned with the universe. Through Sanatangyan's teachings, we have learned that it does not require a complex system of rituals or renunciation to develop spiritually. With some simple, yet effective daily practices, we can reconnect ourselves with our Divine Spirit, thereby gaining clarity and peace of mind, as well as developing our life's purpose.

Why Feeling Lost Is a Spiritual Signal

In Sanatan tradition, feeling lost is described in the shashtra as a phase of inner awakening. When worldly goals stop satisfying the heart, the soul begins seeking something higher. Saints, sadhus, and every realized guru emphasize that confusion is often the doorway to transformation. Sanatangyan teaches that when we feel disconnected from our True Self, our Soul remembers that it is a Child of God and is urging us back towards practicing Spiritual Discipline.

The Bhagavad Gita confirms this truth:

अशान्तस्य कुतः सुखम्

“How can there be happiness for one who is not spiritually peaceful?”

 — Bhagavad Gita 2.66

Peace arises not from complexity, but from simplicity practiced daily.

1. Daily Chanting – Purifying the Mind

Daily chanting is the foundation of spiritual growth. Repeating the holy names of God on a mala for just 10 minutes creates a powerful vibration that cleanses mental clutter and karmic impressions. Sound is considered divine energy in Sanatangyan.

The Kali-Santarana Upanishad declares:

हरे कृष्ण हरे कृष्ण कृष्ण कृष्ण हरे हरे

हरे राम हरे राम राम राम हरे हरे

“These sixteen names destroy the impurities of Kali Yuga and deliver the soul.”

Chanting anchors awareness in the present moment and gradually awakens devotion (bhakti).

2. Embrace Wisdom – Let Shashtra Guide Life

For us to grow spiritually, we need to have the right information about ourselves, the Universe and how we relate to everything around us. When we read or listen to sacred scriptures (like the Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, or Srimad Bhagavatam), we will gain clarity about our lives, our duties in life, as well as know we are all Divine Beings with eternal Souls. If you feel it difficult to read the scriptures, then listening to a Spiritual Discourses (on video or audio format) is also very effective.

From the Bhagavad Gita (4.38):

न हि ज्ञानेन सदृशं पवित्रमिह विद्यते।

“There is nothing as purifying in this world as true spiritual knowledge.”

According to Sanatangyan, the Shashtra (Sacred Scripture) is a spiritual mirror. It allows us to see the Truth and protects seekers from being misled by confusion or belief in something blindly.

3. Join a Community – Grow Together in Devotion

Spiritual progress becomes easier in the company of like-minded devotees. Associating with a spiritual community keeps motivation strong and faith alive. Group kirtan, satsang, and seva multiply spiritual benefits.

The Srimad Bhagavatam (3.25.25) states:

सतां प्रसङ्गान् मम वीर्यसंविदो

भवन्ति हृत्कर्णरसायनाः कथाः॥

“In the association of pure devotees, discussions about the Lord become nourishing to the heart and soul.”

Sanatangyan points out that even highly evolved Sadhus attend Satsangs, which is because through the practice of Satsang, Sadhus (and absolutely everyone else) can strengthen their determination to be more humble towards their duties.

4. Adopt a Spiritual Lifestyle – Living the Teachings

Spirituality is not about meditation; it is about how we live. Living spiritually means to include Devotion as a part of daily routines through Home Puja, Offering of Bhog to God prior to eating, use of Tilak, wearing the Kanthi Mala, observing Ekadashi, listening to Bhajans, displaying Pictures of Divine Beings within your home, etc.

Sanatangyan explains that such actions constantly remind the mind of God, reducing anxiety and restlessness. The shashtra affirms:

स्मरणं पादसेवनम्

“Constant remembrance of the Lord is itself devotion.”

Lifestyle devotion transforms ordinary life into sacred service.

5. Live with Purpose – The Joy of Seva

The paramount expression of Spiritually is selfless devotion. Providing time (or heart), talent (or skill), treasure (or resource), and energy (or power) to the Lord's Service and devotional activity rekindles the warmth of fulfilment. Seva creates avenues for eradicating egoism through awakening compassion.

Sanskrit Quote (Bhagavad Gita 3.19):

तस्मादसक्तः सततं कार्यं कर्म समाचर

“Perform prescribed duty without attachment, for such action leads to the highest goal.”

Through service, Guruji's teachings illustrate that without Service, one's Love & Devoition Unfulfilled. Seva transposes our own spiritual awareness (or love) into living compassion through the experience of serving.

Realizing you are lost does not signify 'the end,' but instead indicates 'New Beginnings'! Through following these simple Sanatan practices rooted in Sanatangyan, even your unsettled heart will again experience the peace, purpose and living relationship with your Creator.
