2. Mallikarjuna Jyotirlinga – The Kailash of the South (Andhra Pradesh)


Situated on Srisailam Hill, this Jyotirlinga is associated with the story of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati visiting their son Kartikeya, who had chosen to reside there. It is also one of the Shakti Peethas, making it a significant spiritual destination.

3. Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga – The Lord of Time (Madhya Pradesh)  


The Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga is in Ujjain. It is famous for its special Bhasma Aarti, where Lord Shiva is worshipped with sacred ash. People believe that Lord Shiva appeared here as Mahakal, the ruler of time, to protect his devotees.

4. Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga – The Island Temple (Madhya Pradesh)  


This temple is on the Narmada River. Its name comes from its natural shape, which looks like the Sanskrit letter ‘Om.’ People believe that Lord Shiva appeared here after a great battle between the Devas and Asuras.

5. Kedarnath Jyotirlinga – The Himalayan Abode (Uttarakhand)


Perched at an altitude of 3,583 meters, Kedarnath is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites. According to mythology, Lord Shiva took the form of a bull and dived into the ground to evade the Pandavas, leaving behind his hump at Kedarnath.

6. Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga – The Source of River Bhima (Maharashtra)


The story of Bhimashankar Jyotirlinga is about Lord Shiva’s fight with the demon Bhima. People believe that Lord Shiva’s sweat turned into the Bhima River, which flows in that area.

7. Kashi Vishwanath Jyotirlinga – The City of Moksha (Uttar Pradesh)

8. Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga – The Origin of the Godavari (Maharashtra)  


The Trimbakeshwar Jyotirlinga is connected to the holy Godavari River, which is believed to begin from here. It is special because it has a three-faced Shiva Lingam that represents Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh.

9. Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga – The Healer (Jharkhand)  


This Jyotirlinga is also called Baba Baidyanath. It is linked to Ravana, who prayed to Lord Shiva here. People believe this temple has healing powers. Many devotees visit to pray for good health.

10. Nageshwar Jyotirlinga – The Protector from Poison (Gujarat)  


The Nageshwar Jyotirlinga has a story about a demon named Daaruka. Lord Shiva defeated him to save a devotee. This temple is known for protecting people from evil.

11. Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga – The Southernmost Jyotirlinga (Tamil Nadu)


This holy temple is linked to Lord Rama. People believe he worshipped Lord Shiva here before going to Lanka. It is also one of the Char Dham pilgrimage sites.

12. Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga – The Last Jyotirlinga (Maharashtra)


The Grishneshwar Jyotirlinga is near the Ellora Caves. It is the smallest among the twelve but still very important. The temple was rebuilt by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar, who restored many Hindu temples.
